Inspirations: Moroccan Home Decor

Taking a break from the whites we are! Reminiscent of our own Indian rich style, Moroccan homes exude color, textures, patterns and elaborateness.

A bedroom made splendid- look at the war of colors made soothing by a neutral tiled floor and a shabby wall. Im definitely not a fan.

Yes, I am a fan! Love the whites, neutrals and warm tones. See carefully on the sides and you’d see a Jali work of filigree. Love everything about this space.

Ever thought of doing something like this? Well, it’s easy, it’s cost effective and its a great way to utilize your kitchen window!

Simply paint your old tins or plastic

Pot your plants

Drill in a flat rod and secure (Ask your drill guy to do it for you)

With the help of strong clothes pin, hang them on the sill!

We would so do it. Totally do it!

Another very very easy option, this just involves ropes and earthen bowls. Tie and hang- a complete no brainer.

Try flowering climbers or succulents- they will both look stunning!

An easy lampshade makeover

A very talented blogger showed us the other day how to make a lampshade from torn pillow covers. We couldnt believe the effect until we tried it ourselves. Rustic, feminine and oh-so-beautiful, it took us some 15 minutes to change our old rotten lampshade into something beautiful! How we love DIY!

Here’s what you’ll need:

A pillow cover torn into strips

A lampshade frame

HOW

Tear the pillow cover in 3″ strips and keep.

Now, just keep tying the knots.

No, bows but dead knots

Cover the entire shade and enjoy your new found lampsade.

How to make teacup candle

Do you have an old teacup set that you don’t often use? Do you have a lot of candle stubs that you are planning to clean out? Do you cherish a love for all things beautiful and recycled? Then this craft is totally for you.

Teacup candles are in vogue and in a romantic setting, they look quite nice! Here’s what you’ll need for making a batch

Wax: Shavings, block, plain candles anything will do

Essential oil: Of your choice

Wick

Pencil

HOW

Melt wax in a heavy bottomed pan with essential oil

Wound one end of the wick to a pencil and leave the other end free- the length of the free wick should be equal to the depth of the cup. Haha! Just make sure from the pencil, the wick reaches to the bottom of the cup in a straight line.

Position your pencil in such a way over the cup that the wick is positioned in center of the cup

Now, carefully pour the hot wax in the cup

Let it rest for 2-3 hours

Have a wonderful time!

Two things. First, I am completely smitten by this blogger. Two, I am sold on these paper moccasins. How stinking cute this is…is it not? And believe me, making this is all so easy.

Gail from Cantstopmakingthings.com is a talented girl and people should visit her. Second, imagine a couple of these in velvet paper and over books? Or in multicolors hung from a window with little bells? Oh, we are so making these.

Vintage teapot knockoff

Goodmorning Decordrunk ladies and gentlemen..oops, sorry! That would be Decor Trunk. Here’s some stuff out of the lovely trunk we made and we’ll let you guess the metal.

When our most trusted coffee pot showed a chip, we were totally heartbroken that we would have to throw it away. But due to some twist of fate, we just kept it in our basement thinking maybe we will be able to do something with it. And guess what? we did.

Having stumbled upon a vintage aluminium teapot turned planter, we couldn’t resist the idea. And so came out from the basement out trusted teapot.

We gave it a coat of matte-metallic silver and touched up with black the handle.

We were in a hurry, we needed flowers but we were constantly wondering as to how exactly will our spray look in our bottles. Why so much confusion? Because we did not research the colors of flowers that would instantly make the vase and the setting look good! So ladies and gentlemen, do yourself this favor and make sure to research a bit while buying flowers.

Here are some inspirations that we think will sum up your search as whole.

Are you using plain bottles as your vase? Fill in mixed spray that go with your setting. For an outdoor setting, opr for two to three warm color roses. If you are choosing white, mix it with pinks or yellows according to the table setting.

Use vintage bottles and cans as your vase and you’ll get heads turned. Fill the already bright jars with equally bright flowers- consult the color wheel to go according to it or skip a few colors.

Here’s to the folks who prefers everything on an elegant note. Use your teapots to hold some lily or roses. They look stunning.

Hmm, feels like we need some flowers in our little home too!

Dreamcatcher Tutorial

They catch your bad dreams and throw them out of the window. They filter your good dreams and let them seep through the feathers to you. They are your dreamcatchers protecting you from bad dreams.

A craft straight out of Native America, all you need to make this wonderful charm is a sewing hoop (ideally willow hoop) and cords (ideally sinew).

How to make a dreamcatcher

First, wound the hoop with leather strips or thread or ribbon- the choice is yours.

Next, loop the cords in this fashion

And follow with interloops until you reach the center.

Put in a bead or two if you like.

Finish off by attaching feathers!

A perfect gift for your young one, dream catchers still take my fancy. Looks like we need to make dreamcatchers in bulk considering at decor trunk we are all alike!
